The capital of Cuba is Havana, which is in the north of the country. It is the most populous city and the largest by area. Santiago de Cuba, located in the south of the island, is the second-largest city.

By land area, Cubaโ€™s main island is the largest in the Caribbean. Its terrain is largely flat with gently rolling hills, though there are mountains in the center, northwest, and southeast. The highest of these mountains is Pio Turquino, in the southeast, which rises 6,476 feet. The lowland plains consist mostly of farmland, but there are some small deserts too. The coastal area may be renowned for its white sand beaches, but it is also characterized by mangroves and swamps.

Cubaโ€™s climate is tropical, with consistently warm temperatures throughout the year. It has a dry season, which runs from November through April, and a wet season, which runs from May through October. The countryโ€™s wet season coincides with the Atlantic hurricane season, which can bring intense downpours.

Cuba is one of only a few socialist countries in the world. The Communist Party of Cuba is the only political party. Cuba has a President who serves as both the head of the state and the Commander of the Armed Forces and a Prime Minister who is the head of the government.
