Luxembourg’s nationalΒ  language (and one of three official languages) is Luxembourgish. French and German are the other two official languages of the country and are both taught in schools. German is the main language used for written press and police files, although French is used equally with German for public service information.

Luxembourg has a mild continental and oceanic climate. The country has mild winters and warm summers. Northern areas are usually colder and more humid than southern regions.

The highest point in Luxembourg is a hill called Kneiff, which has an elevation of 560 meters. Hills and small mountains dominate the northern area of Luxembourg, whereas the southern region is the more populated area and is characterized by plateaus. Areas in eastern Luxembourg have dense forests.

One of the country’s most popular tourist attractions and landmarks is Vianden Castle, which dates back to the 11th century, and is located in the north of Luxembourg. Other iconic landmarks include the Grand Ducal Palace (the official residence of the Grand Duke of Luxembourg) and Saint Michael’s Church in Luxembourg City (the capital of Luxembourg).

Luxembourg is the world’s last remaining grand duchy. This means it’s the only country in the world with a grand duke or grand duchess as its monarch and head of state. The country’s prime minister serves as the head of government.
