The country’s land mass in Europe is known officially as Metropolitan France. It is bordered by Belgium and Luxembourg to the north, Germany, Switzerland, and Italy to the east, and Monaco, Andorra, and Spain to the south. France has coastlines to the south, west, and north. The English Channel is to the north, the Bay of Biscay is to the west, and the Mediterranean Sea is to the south.
