Singapore has lost 95 percent of its natural vegetation due to significant urbanization. The government has dedicated ten percent of Singapore’s land to parks and nature reserves to preserve the country’s remaining wildlife. The Singapore Botanic Gardens, Gardens by the Bay, and the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve are some of the country’s dedicated green areas. Singapore’s most iconic landmarks include the Marina Bay Sands hotel and the island resort of Sentosa.

The country’s location close to the equator means its climate is typically tropical, with heavy rainfall, high temperatures, and high humidity all year round. It has two monsoon seasons: one from December through March and one from June through September.

Singapore operates under a parliamentary republic, which is based on the Westminster system of government. The President is the head of the state, and the Prime Minister is the head of the government. The government has three separate branches: executive, legislature, and judiciary.
