The capital city of Morocco is Rabat, but its largest city and main port is Casablanca. The countryโ€™s other large cities include Marrakech, Fez, and Tangier. Moroccoโ€™s cities share similar features;ย  a typical Moroccan city has an old fortress (known as a kasbah) and a medina, which is the old medieval section of the city, as well as mosques and bazaars.

Moroccoโ€™s landscape consists of a long stretch of coastline extending the country’s entire length, two desert regions, and many mountains. The Atlas Mountain Range is located in the south and center of Morocco, extending into Algeria and Tunisia. The Rif Mountain Range lies entirely in Morocco, in the north of the country. Part of the Sahara Desert โ€” the largest desert in the world โ€” can be found in southeastern Morocco.

Moroccoโ€™s climate varies depending on the season and region, but generally has a Mediterranean or hot desert climate. The coastal regions experience moderate temperatures even during the summer, while inland areas are hotter and drier. For most of the year, the south is hot and dry during the day, with temperatures dropping at night.

Morocco operates under a parliamentary constitutional monarchy, whereby the Prime Minister is the head of the government, and the Monarch is the head of the state. Under the 2011 Constitution of Morocco, the Monarch is not the sole decision-maker, but they still have substantial discretionary power.
