Botswana’s capital city is Gaborone. It is also the country’s largest city.

The official language of Botswana is English, a remnant of the country’s colonial past. However, most people in the country speak Setswana, which is considered to be Botswana’s national language. There are also over 20 other indigenous languages in the country, although some are at risk of extinction.

Tswana is the largest ethnic group in Botswana, followed by the San people (Bushmen) and the Kalanga. The Tswana people are a native group of South Africa, with eight major tribes in Botswana. The San people are believed to have one of the world’s oldest cultures and are potentially descendants of the first inhabitants of Botswana and South Africa.

Botswana has a parliamentary republic, where the president is both the head of government and the head of state. The country gained its independence from Britain in 1966, having been part of the British Empire since 1885.
